Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) painted many Dutch interiors besides his famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring". In the painting "The Art of Painting", a magnificent golden chandelier hangs above the painter and his subject. Dutch historians have noted that such chandeliers allowed artists to demonstrate their expertise in rendering shimmering and refracting brass under changing lighting conditions. A true testament to their craftsmanship and artistry.
Exuding Dutch design sensibilities, the 19th-century Vermeer 108 chandelier illuminates spaces with its hollow single-storey brass frame. Eight graceful arms illuminate the small 56 cm wide fixture, which is accented by metal scrollwork along the circular frame. At just 50 cm high, this golden chandelier is a refined appearance for period mansions and salons. Although the Vermeer 108 was made long ago, it is modernly wired to brighten today's interiors with its warm, understated elegance. With its curved brass arms and intricately decorated frame, this lighting piece honours cherished Dutch traditions of metalwork.
Description
Original historical moulds from that era are used to make the brass parts. Moreover, casting is still done the old-fashioned way in a greasy type of sand called Brussels earth. After the crown is lacquered, the parts are assembled by skilled craftsmen. Electric crowns have curved hollow brass tubes for the arms. The arms and curls are soldered together. While the crowns are being assembled, electrical wiring and lighting components are discreetly inserted.

The company is the only manufacturer of chandeliers with original casting moulds from the 17th century in the whole of Europe.
